You Don't Have to Be in Crisis to Start Therapy

RachelJan 20262 min read

There's this idea that therapy is only for when things are really bad—like everything is falling apart and you have no other option. But honestly? That's just not true.

You don't have to wait until you're burnt out, overwhelmed, or barely holding it together to ask for support. Therapy can be a place to check in with yourself before things hit that point. It can be space to reflect, process, and figure out what you actually need—without everything being on fire first.

Maybe things are "fine," but you feel off. Maybe you're tired of the same patterns showing up in your relationships. Maybe you just want to understand yourself better or have a space where you don't have to filter what you're thinking. That's more than enough reason to start.

As a person-centered therapist, I'm not here to tell you that you're broken or need fixing. You don't. Therapy is just a space where you get to show up as you are—messy thoughts, questions, swearing and all—and be met with honesty and support.

You don't need a crisis to deserve care. You can start therapy just because you want to feel more like yourself again.

If you're curious about whether therapy might be right for you, I offer a free 15-minute consultation. There's no pressure—just a chance to connect and see if we're a good fit.

Warmly,

Rachel Hart VanDorsselaer
